Is Weightlifting Safe After Undergoing A Bursa Decompression?
![default](/r/images/default.png)
Question: Hi, 3 weeks ago I had an operation on my shoulder. The dr performed a bursa decompression. I have been doing my pt exercises everyday. In your opinion when can I get back to weight lifting?
Brief Answer:
Aftre another 5-7 weeks.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
After a bursa decompression surgery, it takes 8-10 weeks for the strength of the muscles around the shoulder to return back to normal. You can lift weights after another 5-7 weeks.
Do start doing muscular activities gradually so as not to stress the shoulder joint muscles excessively. Weight lifting puts a lot of stress on the shoulder muscles. It is best to start doing it again in a graded manner.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care

Hi, I have been doing range of motion exercises three times a day. A few days ago I added some strengthening work. Shoulder hurts a little, perhaps I moved on to soon. When I am curious what can go wrong with a bursa decompression?
Brief Answer:
Can be some inflammation after surgery.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
After a bursa decompression, there can be some local inflammation or weakness due to the weakened bursa.
Do give it adequate time to heal and let your shoulder joint muscles gain adequate strength before you start with weight lifting again.
Hope I have answered your query.
