I’ve Been Coughing Deeply All Day. Went To The Dr

anti inflammatory pain killer, decongestant, steam inhalation
Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic
The persistent coughing can irritate the muscles of the chest and back. The heating pad should help and , if possible, you can add an anti inflammatory pain killer such as aspirin, ibuprofen, celebrex or naproxen.
If there is any nasal congestion or runny nose, you can consider adding a decongestant. The coricidin does not have a decongestant and the drip of mucus to the back of the throat from the nose, contributes to coughing. If this can be relieved, then the coughing may decrease.
Topical decongestants can be used if you cannot use an oral one. Eg of topical decongestants include otrivine or normal saline.
Oral decongestants would be sudafed
In some persons, steam inhalation, can also help reduce coughing as well.
Coughing can also be due to inflammation of the lower airways or mild closure of these airways (even if not known to be asthmatic).
If there is no relief with the addition of decongestants and steam inhalation then you may need to be assessed to determine if there is inflammation or closure.
A short course of prednisone (3 to 5 days), may be needed
I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
