I’ve Been Having Issues With My Instestinsl Health For A
Question: I’ve been having issues with my instestinsl health for a few years. 7 years or so. this has included rectal bleeding intermittently, burning every time I have a bowel movement, and various levels of diarrhea. ive had extremely loose stool for mosr of this year. its sometimes watery, but mldtly it just looks like a mound of wet mud. I’m
also extremely gassy. My primary care doctor thinks I’m chronically constipated due to lack of fiber, but that doesnt make any sense to me, because I go to the bathroom all the time, and its loose, not hard. If i take fiber supplements (like metamucil), the symptoms mostly resolve themselves. I stop bleeding, i burn less, my stool gets firmer, although its often not the blrmsk thicj, long stool that its supposed to bd (its still often a bit thinner or smaller or a bit liquidy and soft). My main concern is it could be colon cancer. i had a colonoscopy done 4 years ago, and it only found some hemmirhoids and irritation. no polyps or cancer. So i guess my question is, does thr fact that taking metamucil stops these symptoms mean it is not colon cancer? Like if it was cancer, would those symptoms continue despite my fiber intake? thanks.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for posting your query in HCM.
I am Dr.Barani.
You have mentioned fiber supplements stops the symptoms. You have also mentioned that the symptoms are present for the past many years.
Both these points rule out colon cancer.
Also the colonoscopy done 4 years ago did not reveal anything significant.
So I would say you do not have colon cancer.

Dr.Barani
