I’ve Been Having Pain Located On The Left Side Of

Question: I’ve been having pain located on the left side of my spine, under my left shoulder blade. The pain is a constant deep aching, and no position alleviates the pain, but arching my back forwards makes the pain worse. Pain was strong enough to keep me up at night, and was accompanied with nausea. Started yesterday when I went to stand up from laying down, and was sudden. Putting pressure down on the affected area causes absolutely no pain or discomfort, which makes me think it’s not muscular, but I don’t know what else it could be. I’m currently active duty so only option to see a provider right now is at the on base ER, and I’m not sure if it’s serious enough to warrant a visit.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for the query. I can understand your concern. According to your statement, you have been suffering from feeling pain on the left side of your spine, under your left shoulder blade.

Such type of pain may result from prolonged sitting with poor posture or sleep in an odd position, lifting weights above your head without proper technique can make injury, thoracic spine becomes inflammed and painful from overuse or injury, disc herniation in the cervical or thoracic spine, heart diseases like aortic dissection or heart attacks, compression fractures on that particular area, acid reflux, spinal stenosis and many more.

You can take painkillers like ibuprofen or naproxen with antiulcerant and muscle relaxants to subside your pain. Apply hot or cold compresses on your affected area. Some investigations like X-ray or MRI of that area, CRP with some other tests may help to detect the underlying causes for your present sufferings and then treat them accordingly.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
