Question: I’ve been having pain since November.
1. I woke up one morning with a stiff neck and very sore muscles in the trap/deltoid area. Then my Collar bone @ shoulder bones were sore and painful to the touch
2. Went to several doctors who performed a litany of blood work & imaging nothing found.
3. No abnormal findings so they sent me to a neurologist bc along with the neck pain sore to the touch muscles i began to have a postural tremor & muscles spasms/twitches. And a tingling in my arms and hands. I also periodically would get bone pain (sharp pain in my forearm, shin and wrists) aching for a few mins and then returning several hours or days later. And a feeling of numbness on my left side.
4. I’ve only been twice to physical therapy so i can’t say much about progress. I go 6 more times.
5. Two neurologists and a brain MRI & cervical spine MRI later we find nothing wrong in the neuro exam. The mri of brain is normal. Cervical spine shows mild disc protrusion c5 and C6. Pinching a nerve.

Psyiatrist won’t see me again until i get an epidural in my neck. Is this the only method to fix issue?

Brief Answer:
Epidural shot causes pain relief and relaxes muscles.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
You have mild foraminal stenosis at the level of C5-C6. This can cause a mild pain in the area you have marked. Muscle spasm, abnormal neck positions and using a pillow can aggravate the problem.
You need to start with a hot compress in the area along with oral muscle relaxants for proper muscle relaxation in the area and see if it helps. Using a local analagesic gel should also help. Isometric neck exercises and regular physiotherapy can help in long term relief. You need to have intermittent stretch breaks during your work also to help in the improvement.
Epidural injection in the neck helps in total muscle relaxation in the area and thus relieves any pressure on the nerves thus decreasing the pain.
I hope this answers your query.
