I've Been Having Stomach And Back Pain And Now I'm
investigation is required
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
there is no easy answer as to what's wrong with your abdomen or how you have to treat it. These kinds of symptoms may have various causes and require investigation. It could be anything between an irritation of the stomach (peptic ulcer, functional dyspepsia, etc) to a serious intra-abdominal inflammatory disorder (like pancreatitis, cholecystitis, etc). In such cases, an investigation is required with clinical assessment and lab tests. Sometimes an ultrasound scan of the upper abdomen may be crucial for the diagnosis.
Burning pain usually denotes a stomach disorder. Pain that comes and goes may be caused by gastroenteritis. The pain may radiate to the back in disorders like acute cholecystitis, acute pancreatitis, acute pericarditis, etc.
The so-called "liver function tests" are important when investigating such symptoms. AST, ALT, ALP, gamma-GT and a complete blood count with C-reactive protein levels are very useful in this regard. Amylase helps in cases of suspected acute pancreatitis.
If your symptoms are severe enough or have lasted for more than a few hours without any relief then an urgent investigation will be required - you should visit the ER. Drugs that may help with your symptoms include paracetamol (for the pain) and an antiemetic (like metoclopramide) unless contraindicated. Please keep in mind that your doctor is the most appropriate person to suggest treatment options!
I hope I've answered your question. Please let me know if you need further assistance.
