Question: Hello so I’ve been on birth control since last October of 2017 and last week on my 3rd week of my active pills on a Tuesday I took my pill & I thought it went through the wrong pipe so I took another pill that same day just Incase the other pill didn’t dissolve into my system correctly. I had sex Tuesday morning & I take my pill at 5PM everyday. So anyways because I took that extra pill I was a day ahead & I finished my active pills early so on Friday instead of Saturday. I then went straight to my sugar pills. I didn’t have sex since that Tuesday & even though I took that extra pill Tuesday I continued to take my active pills as is so I’m just concerned over pregnancy? Since I know sperm can live in your body for 3-5 days.

Brief Answer:
Almost nil chance of pregnancy

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
I have gone through your question and understand the concerns.
Taking an extra pill and finishing active pills one day earlier will not lead to any chance of failure of contraception.
Moreover, chances of ovulation in third week are low and hence minimal chance of pregnancy.
I suggest you not to worry as there are almost nil chances of pregnancy.
Hope you found the answer helpful.

Thank you for your response I appreciate it. Also additionally information & another question is that I was freaking out about the chance of pregnancy and so on Monday I took a plan B pill. I’ve been feeling weird spasms or like abdominal flinches since I took it. I also took a pregnancy test yesterday on Tuesday the day of my expected period and it came out negative but my question is if i were to be pregnant due to me finishing my pack earlier one day is that enough time to know with the pregnancy test i took? So basically is it accurate or not accurate?

Brief Answer:
After 14 days

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
pregnancy test should be taken at least 14 days after the intercourse, or 14 days after the missed pill.
Then only it will be accurate.

Hi Dr. XXXXXXX I took another exam today (3 days after expected period) and it came out negative. I believe I am not pregnant than. Since I didn’t miss a pill I took the extra dosage if I were to be pregnant it should be positive by now I believe.

I have another question since I was a day ahead in my previous birth control pack because of the double pill, I basically had 8 days of placebo pills and I started my new pack on Sunday like always. Is that okay? Since I had 8 days instead of 7 days of placebo pills.
