Question: Hello I've been on mirtazapine (remeron) for 2.5 months, now I found out that it can cause false positive for meth or benzo on urine test. I'm really worried that if they drug test me and remeron might show up as false positive for benzo or meth and I'm also afraid that MRO might not believe me. The medicine is working on me. What should I do? Thanks

Brief Answer:
Stop worrying about it

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I read your query and understand your concerns.

First of all I like to inform you that odds of causing false positive tests for substances of abuse among mirtazepine users is extremely low. In addition it is well documented in the literature. Even if causes anything adversial for you, you can contest the test and report the testing authority for other form of tests in addition to standard tests for substance of abuse.

The higher sensitivity tests such as chromatography rule out the all false psotives due to any cause including mirtazepine use.

Please remember that for suspected false positive tests we have options in form of highly specific and sensitive tests and they can employed when needed. You can continue your medication without any worries.

I hope this helps you.
Feel free to write back to me if you have more questions.
Thanks and regards.
