Question: I’ve had diarrhea for 10 days (like water) starting 7/25-8/5, running a fever for 3 days, and am experiencing fatigue, just an overall feeling of not being well. I have been diagnosed with acid reflux and take Prilosec but it’s not helping.

Brief Answer:
hold off solids, probiotics, fluid and electrolyte replacement

Detailed Answer:
Hi, thanks for using healthcare magic

Diarrhea is most commonly related to infection of the gastrointestinal tract particularly the intestines.

Even though you do not have any vomiting (not mentioned above), the stomach lining may still be irritated because of the infection and this would affect the ability of the prilosec to work.
Prilosec and similar meds can take 5 to 7 days to kick in because they do not get rid of the acid present but stop future production

In terms of the diarrhea, if there is any blood, then you need to be seen

If the stool is not bloody then you can consider the following: (1) No solid food till 4 hours pass with no symptoms

When this 4 hour period passes then you can try a small amount of dry food such as plain bread, biscuits, plain rice

If you use food before the intestines are ready, it delays healing

(2)need to replace fluids and electrolytes, this is very important. Dehydration would affect your energy levels
You can use oral hydration products or dilute sport drinks (to reduce sugar content since sugar can worsen diarrhea)

(3)probiotics can help speed up healing.
Can either use probiotics on their own or use yogurts with probiotics

(4)paracetamol/tylenol to help with the fever

If there is no improvement or any worsening in your symptoms, then you may need to be seen.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
