Question: I’ve had flu symptoms since the past two months, doctor has had me do some tests. My IgE levels have come above the recommended levels of below 100. What is bothering me is that my father has auto-immune disease. Should I be worried? I’m also a type-1 diabetic since 1987.

Brief Answer:
Hii. I think you are having fever, sore throat, body ache which you have me

Detailed Answer:
Hii. I think you are having fever, sore throat, body ache which you have mentioned as flu like symptoms. Any viral infection can result in such type of symptoms. Your IgE level is more than 100 but it's not so high. So you had an allergic episode but you may not be chronically allergic. Your father has some autoimmune disease. So you are thinking if you are having similar autoimmune disease which can lead you to these allergic symptoms. My advice to you that you may or may not be having autoimmune disease. It's not necessary that if your father had you are supposed to have it. And you can have flu like symptoms even if your IgE is less or raised. It's your immunity which matters. If you are having autoimmune disease you cannot eradicate it but you can decrease your allergic symptoms by strengthening your immunity. So do regular exercise. Take protein diet. Avoid smoking alcohol intake. Take nasal fluticasone or saline nasal spray during episodes of cold. Take steam inhalation. Do betadine gargle. Take less tea, coffee, spicy food. Do a routine blood tests to have the normal routine check up. Avoid dust, cold, specific things to whom you are allergic. You can have a nasal endoscopy and x ray sonus to see if you are having any significant findings. Follow the advice and review if you have any queries.
