I’ve Had Growth On My Lip For Approximately 18 Months.

Question: I’ve had growth on my lip for approximately 18 months. It’s sometimes the colour of my lip, but sometimes purple. It began as a small red pinprick sized dot and is now considerably bigger. It has not increased in size for approximately a year.
My GP has dismissed it without offering an explanation of what it is or how I can treat it.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Brief Answer:
Angiokeratoma or melanocytic naevus, upload pictures

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to ask a doctor service
I have gone through your query and it could be an angiokeratoma or melanocytic naevus.
I would recommend you to upload the pictures of the affected area under the report section of the site so that I can have a clearer picture of the condition and can guide you accordingly.

Dr Asmeet

I’ve uploaded a photo.
I also thought I’d add, it increases in size with trauma, for example when I try to pop it, but it then reduces back to the size in the photo.
I’ve also tried to put a pin through it, it bleeds as you’d expect, but there is no other discharge.

Brief Answer:
Angiokeratoma or pyogenic granuloma

Detailed Answer:
I have reviewed the attached photographs and it seems to be either angiokeratoma or pyogenic granuloma.
These are benign vascular lesions.
I would recommend you to consult a doctor and get it removed by electrocautery or radio frequency ablation.
It is a minor office procedure requiring 15-20 minutes.
