I’ve Noticed That There Is Some Blood When I Pass
You might have hemorrhoids
Detailed Answer:
Hello, I'm Dr. Branch, thanks for using Ask a Doctor. It's a little hard to say for sure where the bleeding might be coming from, but I would say that if you saw blood after a bowel movement, and there was nothing on the tampon immediately afterwards, I would suspect the blood was coming from the GI tract. If the blood was bright red and seemed to be outside of the stool, this would most likely be from hemorrhoids. If the blood was more mixed in the stool, this would be from higher up in your colon. If you are 50 years old or older, you should have a colonoscopy for routine screening, or if you do have blood mixed in with the stool. Otherwise, if you have hemorrhoids, usually conservative treatment is recommended at first, with stool softeners and extra fiber to prevent from having to strain with bowel movements. You can also use topical treatments like Preparation-H.
Either way, it would probably be best to let a doctor examine you to confirm what the cause of your bleeding is, especially if it persists.
I hope that helps, please let me know if you have any questions about any of that, and I would be glad to discuss it with you further.
A regular physician
Detailed Answer:
Most of the time, a regular physician should be able to check for this and determine whether you have hemorrhoids. Sometimes an anoscope is needed if the exam is unclear, but most regular physicians would have this as well. In rare cases you might be sent to a specialist, but I would start with a regular physician.
