Just Had A Routine Blood Test Done Is Everything Fine

Question: Just had a routine (annual physical) blood test done. Everything came back normal except
BUN/Creatinine ratio = 21
BUN is by itself within the range =23
Creatinine looks good as well = 1.12
But ratio is high.
How serious or important this finding?
What should be done ?
I have no other symptoms.
I am 58yo male, generally healthy (just finished running 4 miles in 80F :))

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I think there is some printing mistake, I will explain-
your BUN-23
YOUR CREATININE - 1.12
SO BUN/CREATININE = 23/1.12=
19.00826
And 19 is within normal range
(normal range 10 to 20).
I Hope Your Query is clear now.
Thank You

I am afraid you are not correct: 23/1.12 = 20.535 (my calculator shows)

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Sorry, my bad.
But even then it is almost normal.
Now if we take BUN/CREATININE LEVEL 20.5, MEANS BORDERLINE HIGH.
SO IT CAN BE SEEN IN CASES OF ACUTE DEHYDRATION, WHERE BUN reaches to upper range, but creatinine may remain normal, because no renal problem.
So BUN/CREATININE COMES SLIGHTLY HIGH.
BUT PRACTICALLY, IF BUN AND CREATININE IS WITHIN NORMAL RANGE, THEN THERE IS NOT MUCH SIGNIFICANCE OF RATIO.
IN CASE of severe enough dehydration, BUN becomes abnormal.
So as in your case BUN and CREATININE both are normal, so nothing to worry about.
Just remain hydrated.
I Hope Your Query is clear now.
Thank You
