Brief Answer:
Need regular follow up
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Thank you for the details given:
The report shows:
1. High total cholesterol, high LDL cholesterol and normal HDL, VLDL, TGL levels
2. Very low vitamin D level
3. Normal liver function test, normal B12 levels
I will explain in two parts:
A) High cholesterol:
Since there is a family history and the onset is at a younger age, this is probably FAMILIAL HYPERCHOLESTEROLEMIA. As there is a chance for early coronary heart disease, this needs regular follow-up apart from an initial evaluation (with basic cardiac evaluation and thyroid function test). This is better done in XXXXXXX consultation with a pediatrician nearby. We may need to add drugs to lower serum cholesterol- your pediatrician will guide you in this. With regular follow-up, this can be well controlled, and she can have a normal life-—no need to worry.
Meanwhile, try to avoid a fatty diet (especially trans fats) and have some regular exercise for 40-45 minutes daily. A diet rich in fiber will be very good (fruits, green leafy vegetables, oats)
B) Low vitamin D level:
Some tiredness and leg pains can be attributed to this. The minimum level needed is 30. So we can supplement the vitamin D. She can take Vitamin D capsules (60000 U)—one capsule every 2 weeks to a total of 10 capsules. Take calcium tablets along with this- T. Shelcal 500 once daily for the same duration. Include nuts and green leafy vegetables in your diet. Sun exposure also helps to replenish vitamin D levels.
I hope this will clarify your doubts.
Let me know if you need further help. We can have a follow-up after 3 months
Take care
