Last May 2019 I Began Having Some Discomfort In My

Question: Last May 2019 I began having some discomfort in my chest/stomach area for the first time. It still persist somewhat , often when I begin to eat or while I am eating. I have tried to relate it to some event I experienced that might have triggered this. The only experiences that I can recall are a 1) fall I had on my back in the summer of 2018, 2) the death of my brother in May 2019 (along with the death of my favorite two pets, also in May) at which time I believe I internalized the related emotions, and 3) lastly and maybe just a stretch, but I began eating a lot faster a while back. I've since slowed down on eating. Would appreciate your help. It does weigh on me. Thanks, Dr. XXXXXXX XXXXXXX D.B.S.

Brief Answer:
It could be gallstones
Detailed Answer:
Hi Dr. XXXXXXX XXXXXXX
I am sorry to hear about the ordeals you are going through. The discomfort you describe sounds like gallstones, especially if the pain is intermittent and located in your upper abdomen/ under your ribs on the right side. Gallstone colics typically lasts for a few hours. Have you had any fever? Any vomiting or nausea? Typically, I would recommend an ultrasound and if that is normal, a gastroscopy to rule out any acid problem.
Looking forward to hearing from you.

Not sure what happened to it. Won't try to compose it again exactly. But I just wanted to say my symptoms don't seem like you described for gallstones. I have not vomited and the pain is not as you suggested. The discomfort feels like it is in the whole general area of my chest and upper abdomen; not sharp pain. I experience light nausea. The feeling is most obvious WHILE I am eating. Once I finish eating the discomfort pretty much leaves. As my stomach empties again, the discomfort seems to return. Hence, when I start to eat again, the cycle repeats itself. Also, I seem to get full more quickly. Dr. XXXXXXX XXXXXXX D.B.A.

Brief Answer:
Gastritis seems most likely
Detailed Answer:
Hi again Dr. XXXXXXX XXXXXXX
Thank you for elaborating. Gallstones can present with many different symptoms. Regardless, what you describe sounds more like gastritis, which may be induced by spicy or smoked foods, alcohol, or, more likely, helicobacter pylori. A gastroscopy is the best way to get closer to a diagnosis, but a simple breath test for stomach bacteria can also be a good, and obviously non-invasive way of diagnosing bacterial gastritis.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have further questions.
