Question: Last week I had a fever of 102 degrees(F), which for me is very high since I am normally around 96.7. Of course, my first thoughts went to Covid 19. No cough, no runny nose or any mucus for that matter, I did have shortness of breath, but I have had SOB on and off for two years. (In 2014 i was diagnosed with mild asthma, but I have never needed an inhaler. A CT scan in 2017 did show bronchiectasis, but three subsequent CTs showed normal lungs.) I went to my GP, and he took X-rays and blood. Based on what he saw, he thought that it was a pretty good chance it was bacterial so he prescribed an AB. This was Wednesday afternoon and he said I should feel an improvement by Friday morning. On Friday morning, the fever dropped almost to normal and I felt almost normal. I am even briefly went into the office (based on what the GP said). However my SOB was bad last night (again, I have had episodes like that in the last two years, but not recently). My temperature was in the upper 97s, just slightly higher than normal, but still no cough or sore throat. I know there is limited information available for Covid 19, but since the AB appeared to work (or did my body just get better on its own?), and no cough, no sore throat, but my temperature is about one degree above normal and with last night's bad SOB (my breathing appears to normal now), should I pursue this further . i.e, get tested? If I feel the same way tomorrow morning, is it ok to go to the office? I am 68 years old, and otherwise healthy.

Brief Answer:
You should get done PFT.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Ask a doctor forum.
I can understand your concern.
By your history and description, you should definitely get done PFT (Pulmonary Function Test).
Based on PFT report, severity of obstructive abnormality can be obtained and treatment is based on severity only.
You will need inhaled bronchodilators (formoterol or salmeterol) and inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) (budesonide or fluticasone).
And you should also continue antibiotic.
Better to avoid office. First get done PFT and start inhaled treatment.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.

Thank you. Do you think I should push for a Covid 19 test?

I live on Long Island, New York. I have not been out of the country. Other than one week in Florida the first week of February, I have done no traveling at all. I still have the low grade fever and today is day 9. No cough at all. My GP is sure it is not corona, (he did take blood and X-ray yesterday and said all looks normal). He thinks it's some other virus I am fighting and it can take 10 days.
