Last Year I Had Irregular Periods I Took Norethindrone 5

Question: Last year I had irregular periods I took norethindrone 5 Mg for months. I am obese and struggle with my weight. My periods were normal for a while and now they aren’t. I have had my period for 20 days. I called my doctor she wants to try Provera first then norethindrone if the Provera doesn’t work. Why would she want Provera instead ? Does norethindrone 5 mg increase blood clot risk? Can natural remedies like Black Strap Molasses stop prolonged periods ?
Brief Answer:
Get an ultrasound scan to know source of bleeding
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I understand your concerns. Following is my reply:
1) Since you have already tried norethindrone, your doctor might want to start with provera.
2) Provera is a simple and effective drug which might work for you, if not norethindrone second option.
3) There is no increase in risk of clotting with norethindrone to worry much.
4) Natural remedies dont help and have no basis.
5) Try to schedule an appointment to get an ultrasound scan of uterus to know the source of bleeding.
Let me know if you need anymore help.
Regards

Hi Dr. XXXXXXX
Thank you so much answering. You brining me so much comfort. I had an ultrasound and mri last year both were normal. The norethindrone was actually very effective. We tried the prover last year and it actually made me bleed more. So Provera is simpler than norethindrone and that’s probably why she wants to try it ? Is there any harm in not doing Provera and going straight to Norethindrone? I want to ask her to do that because I’m scared of trying Provera again. Also just to double check I mean the dangerous DVT blood clots .... does it increase the risk ?

Brief Answer:
Norethindrone should work fine
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
There is no harm in not doing taking provera if you are uncomfortable with it and you can convey the same to your doctor who can change to norethindrone.
It does not increase DVT risk anyway.
