Brief Answer:
Look for cause - Do Doppler
Detailed Answer:
Hi friend,
Welcome to Health Care Magic
Swelling is generally due to fluid retention / it becomes manifest, when it is ~10 % of the weight...
There are several reasons for the swelling – Heart / Kidney / Liver / Nutrition (low protein, anaemia) and so on... Examination, ECG and basic Lab tests should have given the clues...
If not, it could be from venous obstruction or insufficiency – Doppler study of the lower extremity and abdominal veins will be necessary...Discuss with her doctor and he may order that...
Treatment depends on the cause... Her doctor may suggest them depending on need, based on his assessment of the situation.
Take care
Wishing speedy recovery
God bless
Good luck
