Question: Let me give you the complete picture.
I haave been under chiropractic care for 18 plus months, going every other week for an adjustment. I ended up missing 2 cosecuetive appointmens. At my last visit, my neck and base of skull were sore, and i let chiropractor know. He did his thing. Soreness did not improve and has severely worsened sincethat appointment. I have tried muscle relaxers, ice, heat ibuprofen and pain illers, with no relief. Went to orthopedic walkin yesterday, received torridol shot, which relieved pain for the day. They did xrays which did not show anything. Waiting on insurance answer for MRI. Gave me steroid treatment to start. Swallowing is difficult, acceleration in a vehicle hurts, as well as general turning of head. Soreness seems to be at the very base of skull. I know the MRI will provide better details.

Brief Answer:
Probably osteoarthritis, follow the advice below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear.
Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

In my opinion, your symptoms may be related to osteoarthritis.

Osteoarthritis is a common cause of neck pain and stiffness.

MRI examination will give more detailed information about this diagnosis.

As I see through your query you have already taken the right medication to treat the symptoms.

So, I would suggest you continue the steroid shot which will help with the inflammation and pain.

I also recommend using anti-inflammatory creams for local application such as Voltaren gel.

I would also suggest continuing chiropractic treatment as an alternative way to relieve the pain.

If the pain continues you can also take prescribed painkillers such as Oxycodone. You should consult your doctor about this medication which is on prescription.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further

Brief Answer:
I suggest a liquid diet and also avoid caffeine.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, again dear,

In my opinion, it is necessary to confirm the cause of difficulty in swallowing.

I would suggest you do a barium X-ray or an endoscopy for better evaluation.

Meanwhile, I would suggest using a liquid diet and avoiding caffeine, which may trigger the symptoms.

Take care dear,

Thank you, what about the difficulty swallowing? It is a chore to drink a protein shake or even coffee, let alone eating. Thankyou
