MRI Brain Scan Done. Diagnosed With Multifocal Small Punctate Microhemorrhages. What Does This Mean?
You have Traumatic Brain Injury as per your MRI result.
It good to hear that the haemorrhage is thin; ie, small. Also, there is no mass effect; i.e. no local compression of the underlying brain. And no Hydrocephalus means ; i.e. no enlargement of the ventricular spaces normally present in the brain.
This over all suggests that the haemorrhage over the left temporal lobe is quite small and does not require any surgical intervention. It would resolve with time. What you need is good rest for 3 - 4 weeks.
Multifocal small punctate haemorrhages: This means, there are small bleeding spots inside the brain tissue. This occurred due to the impact of the accident/shearing forces. Again, if you need good rest for few weeks as these hemorrhages would resolve with time.
Only if you develop any symptoms such as persistent headaches or weakness of any part of body, you would need another imaging to see if there is an progression in the injury.
Hope this answers your query.
Do get back if you need any further information.
Sincerely,
Dr Kiran
