MY SON HAD SEIZURE DISORDER WITH FEVER ON FOUR OCCASSIONS
Question: MY SON HAD SEIZURE DISORDER WITH FEVER ON FOUR OCCASSIONS TILL HE IS FIVE YEARS OLD. AFTER A GAP OF FIVE YEARS, WHEN HE HAD FEVER AGAIN HE HAD DISORDER FOR FEW SECONDS . EEG AND MRI SCAN TAKEN AND FOUND NO PROBLEM IN BOTH THE TESTS. DOCTOR HAS SUGGESTED HIM TO TAKE FOLLOWING MEDICINES FOR FEW YEARS. 1. EPILEX CHRONO-200MG (TWICE A DAY) 2 FOLITE (ONE IN A DAY). KINDLY SUGGEST ME WHETHER WE SHOULD CONTINUE WITH THE SAME, IS THERE ANY EFFECTS WILL BE THERE IN FUTURE FOR MY SON DUE TO PROLONGED MEDICATION.

Normally doctors do not prescribe long term anti seizure medicines for kids unless it keeps recurring especially after a gap.
This is nothing to worry.
EEG may show abnormality only during the seizure episode.
So even if reports are normal, it is better to continue medicines as prescribed.
The following are some of the side effects
Nausea Or Vomiting
Diarrhoea
Shakiness In The Legs, Arms, Hands Or Feet
Blurred Vision
Dizziness
Weight Gain
Body Pain
Skin Rash
Sneezing
Dry Or Scaly Skin.
If your child develops any of these side effects consult your doctor immediately..
There are no serious long term side effects,
but you need to follow up regularly with your doctor as he suggests.

Yes he can do regular cycling and badminton like one hour per day
But not for hours together.
Keep the school informed about his condition and his medication. In any emergency at school that will be very useful.
