Metroprol For High Blood Pressure Are These Two Medications Safe To Take Together?

default
Posted on Fri, 23 Aug 2024
Question: I am 46 year old female. I have been experiencing abnormal uterine bleeding for about three weeks now. The bleeding has alternated between medium level flow to spotting but never completely disappears. Prior to this I missed my period in August, had bleeding for about a day in September, normal period in October, no period in November, followed by a period in early December which never stopped. Last week I had an ultrasound which showed a thickening of my uterine lining. I also had a blood test for hormone levels which came back abnormal (nurse said due to perimenopause). I have just been prescribed medroxyprogesterone to take for 2 weeks. Will this stop the bleeding? Is the thickened lining common in perimenopause? I also take metroprol for high blood pressure are these two medications safe to take together? Will this hormone effect my high blood pressure?

Brief Answer:
It could be due to hormonal imbalance.

Hello dear,
Thanks for trusting us about your health care.
I have gone through your history and details and understand your concerns.
As per your description these symptoms could be due to hormonal imbalance( perimenopausal stage).
But as you missed your period it could be an anovulatory cycle.
As per your pelvic ultrasound your endometrial thickness is more it may required d&c with minera insertion.
Get your thyroid profile and hemoglobin test also.
For excessive bleeding you can use medication
Medroxyprogesterone may stop bleeding.
Yes it is common to have thickened endometrium due to hormonal imbalance.

Thanks for the reply. I am waiting for an appointment for a biopsy. Should I be overly concerned about cancer? Are such problems typical as one approaches menopause? Also how long would it take for progesterone thin lining and reduce bleeding?

Brief Answer:
You should not worried about cancer

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for your reply.
The chances of cancer are not there in your case, so you should not worry much about it.
These symptoms are more over suggestive of hormonal imbalance ( menopausal symptoms).
It would take 3to 6months for progesterone to be effective.
Are you going for D&C and biopsy because D&c will make endometrium thin.
Hope to hear from you soon.

Yes, I am going for a d and c. I have vaginismus and gyno felt that an in office biopsy would not be possible due to the condition. I will be having general anesthesia. How long does this hormonal imbalance last before reaching full menopause. Is this type of non stop bleeding typical for perimenopause? I apologize for all of the questions my periods have always been regular! Is the non stop bleeding due to random shedding of thickened lining? One day I'll have minimal spotting followed by a day of heavier flow and then back again.

Brief Answer:
It could be due to hormonal imbalance

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for your reply, sorry for such a long delay in my response.
Sometimes it will take 2-3yrs.in achieving menopause.Yes,it is due to hormonal imbalance caused by perimenopause.
Due to hormonal imbalance, endometrial thickness became more thickened and causing excessive bleeding.
You should not worry much about it, possibility of hormonal imbalance due to perimenopause.
You can take the medicine for the same,it will be better with time and biopsy will confirm the cause.

Thanks for reply. Last question I promise! Is it normal to have random periods of very heavy flow with small clotting that lasts for a few minutes followed immediately by very light flow? Is this due to thickening?
