Acne and its management
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to ask a doctor service
I have gone through your complaint and reviewed the attached photographs.
You are having a moderate degree of acne vulgaris.
I can appreciate multiple open and closed comedones along with erythematous papules on the face.
You need to take oral antibiotics along with topical medicines.
If I was your treating doctor I would recommend you to take tablet azithromycin 500 mg once daily for 3 consecutive days in a week for 6 weeks and apply benzoyl peroxide 2.5 percent gel on the bumps twice daily.
Also use a salicylic acid1 percent face wash twice daily and ketoconazole 2 percent shampoo twice weekly.
Besides this avoid oiling of the scalp, reduce the intake of sugary foods and dairy products, avoid using cosmetics on the face and don't go for facials, scrubbing or cleansing.
You can also consult a dermatologist and go for sessions of chemical peels.
It will hasten the clearance of acne lesions.
I hope to have answered your query and would be happy to answer any further queries.
Regards
Dr. Asmeet
Ketoconazole shampoo is for hair, use Neutrogena oil-free facewash
Detailed Answer:
Ketoconazole 2 percent shampoo is for hair.
You can continue with Neutrogena oil-free face wash.
Instead of retino 0.025 percent gel and Betnovate N cream use benzoyl peroxide 2.5 percent gel the pimples.
THanks for reply, i have following question.
ketoconazole 2 percent shampoo - need to apply on acnes or it is for hair?
and shall i continue "Neutrogena oil free face wash" twice a day. Retino-A .025% with betnovate-N sometime on pimple ?
how to take azithromycin with meal or without meal; and is it ok to take antibiotic for long time i.e 6 weeks?
Azithromycin to be taken before dinner, azithromycin safe to use
Detailed Answer:
Take azithromycin half an hour before dinner. Its absolutely safe to take azithromycin for 6 weeks.
Acne is a chronic disease and medicines take time to act.
In acne antibiotics need to be taken for few months.
