My 15 Year Old Son Has Been Noticing Inverted T-wave
Question: My 15 year old son has been noticing inverted T-wave on his apple watch (series 5). He's in great health and the only prescriptions he takes are Zyrtec (20mg/daily) and dicyclomine- as needed for IBS and prior to this a daily cup of coffee. The ECG app states that it is not intended for use under 22. Is his T-wave something to be concerned about? What symptoms should be of concern? He has a lot of anxiety about going to a doctor's office because of COVID 19
Brief Answer:
Any chest pain? SOB!
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks so much for this query.
TO begin with, T waves are fairly common and appear in the context of heart attack. At his age, heart attacks are very very rare. I have never seen anyone at his age with heart attack.
In any case, shortness of breath and chest pain should raise concerns. I will certainly say this is a false alarm and should be ignored 100%.
I wish you well. Feel free to follow up if need be.

Thank you so much for your prompt response. And, I have done a little extra research too in that the Apple watch is suggesting users to be at least 22 years of age before using the ECG application.
I will add that he had a blood pressure check a few weeks ago that was abnormally high.
So then you would not suggest an EKG or any follow-up at this time. Just in case, what other signs besides SOB and chest pain would one look for if there is an abnormality? Would this have manifested by now in earlier childhood? We do not want to go to the doctor's office for an EKG if we can avoid it due to COVID 19 concerns.
Please let me know your thoughts. Thank you again.

Brief Answer:
If he has no complaints, no need for a doctor's visit immediately!
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Unless he complains of something else, he does not need to go to any hospital for this. Your son is fine and there is no need to look for trouble when there is none.
Thanks and I wish your son well.
If you have any further concerns, I will be happy to address them.
