Question: My 18 yr old university son has a resting heart rate of around 90 and tells me he has slightly double or blurred vision in one eye. He works out not overweight (wirey). Shares a flat with friends so doesn’t eat great, will stay up late at night (typical student). Does not drink alcohol heavily nor do any drugs. Opthomologist last year diagnosed high tension in his eyes. No health issues otherwise. We are concerned re:heart rate and vision

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Welcome to Ask a Doctor service!

I understand your concern and would explain that it is necessary performing some tests in order to investigate for possible causes underlying his high heart rats:

- complete blood count for anemia
- thyroid hormone levels for possible thyroid gland dysfunction
- blood electrolytes for possible imbalances.

From the other hand increased heart rate could be also an autonomic nervous system response to the increased ocular tension.

The blurring vision is related to the increased ocular pressure.

For this reason, I would recommend checking regularly his ocular pressure and treat it with eye drops as needed.

Hope you will find this answer helpful!
