My 22 Year Old Son Had A Sore Throat And

Question: My 22 year old son had a sore throat and swelling in his throat. He went to Urgent Care 2 weeks ago and they said it was viral that they couldn't do anything for him, so he gargles with salt water. He got better but the sore throat is back and he's miserable. They ran tests and everything came back fine.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Your son seems to have allergic pharyngitis with acute tonsillitis. Send a throat swab for culture and sensitivity. You can start tablet Augmentin after sending the swab and later you can change the antibiotic according to sensitivity report. Continue betadine gargle. Encourage oral feeding specially lots of fluid. You can take tablet paracetamol for pain.

Hii. Please attend an ENT surgeon always. He will take the throat swab and sent for culture to the microbiology laboratory. After prescription from him only you can get the antibiotic. I explained you the guidelines and the patient should always be attended by an ENT surgeon.
