Brief Answer:
different possible causes

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

The most common reasons for acute (sudden or recent onset) of pain are: infection, allergy or trauma.

Allergy would normally be associated with additional symptoms in most persons.

It is possible that the pain and swelling in the throat is related to infection, likely viral since this is more common than bacterial infection.

Treatment involves: (1)salt water gargles
(2)use of anti inflammatory medication such as ibuprofen or naproxen- this would reduce the pain and swelling
(3) even if there is no allergic reaction, using an anti histamine would help. Anti histamines also help to reduce the body's inflammatory reaction so would work with the ibuprofen and naproxen
(4)chloroseptic gargle or spray or covonia throat spray- contain both an anti septic and pain medication

If there is no improvement or any worsening then it may be best to be seen, antibiotics may be needed.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions

Thank you Dr. XXXXXXX I will see that he tries one of these. And will let you know if there's any unexpected reaction. Also, will make sure he follows up with a visit if there's no improvement. Again, thank you for your quick reply.
