My 5 Month Old Baby Was Born With Smallish Eyes,
Question: My 5 month old baby was born with smallish eyes, and they have remained small. Neither parents or relatives had small eyes. A few people have made comments, and it’s hard for me to not constantly notice, especially in pictures.
Brief Answer:
Kindly send a picture
Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
Welcome to Ask A Doctor service
I understand your concern
Most likely this might be a normal variation, which we need not worry about.
Can you send me a good quality picture(eyes open)? - This will help me to have a more clear assessment. Also let me know whether he is able to maintain eye contact and smile at you.
Kindly get back with details, so that I can guide you better

She makes eye contact and smiles. She seems to be normal developmentally. She was born with a sacral dimple. She has a high arched palate, as well.
Her eyes may seem like a normal variation, but, both her father and I have very large eyes. We had large eyes as infants, too.

Brief Answer:
Might need genetic work up
Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
Thank you for the details given, although a photo is not attached.
It is good to hear that her development and eye contact is normal.
The small size of eyes, although harmless, can not be corrected with medical or surgical treatment anyhow. Let us not to give undue importance to that.
Also, as she is having other additional minor issues like high arched palate and sacral dimple, this might suggests a generalised dysmorphism of genetic origin. In that case it will be fine if you can consult a genticist. This evaluation will be helpful when planing future pregnancies.
I hope this answer will help
Let me know if I can assist you further
Wishing for everything to be fine

I have attached a picture under reports. Considering the picture, would you still recommend consulting a geneticist? How could a dysmorphism affect planning future pregnancies?
Brief Answer:
Seems fine seeing picture
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Got the picture
Seeing the picture, I could not make a significant abnormality of eye size or other dysmorphic features. So I think a genetic workup is not warranted as of now. You can just discuss your concern when you visit your pediatrician next time, who can also have a direct inspection regarding the same.
Coming to the second part of the question,
If we gets a genetic diagnosis in a baby with dysmorphism, we can predict the chance of recurring the same in future pregnancy, and also do testing for the fetus as early as 8-10 weeks of pregnancy to see whether it is affected and plan accordingly.
I hope this answer will help
If you need further clarification, I will be happy to help; otherwise you can close the discussion and kindly rate the answer.
Thank you
