My 7 Year Old Son Complained Of Some Itchiness Of
Question: My 7 year old son complained of some itchiness of scalp. We have taken him to a well respected lice boutique and the pediatrician. After a thorough exam and comb out they both determined there were no lice and no nits. This black debris keeps coming. This lays on his scalp..there is no specific shape. I looked through his hair with a magnifying glass again today and there are no nits on his hair shaft. These are mostly around hairline. They brush right off with finger. Please let me know what you think this is.
Brief Answer:
Regarding dark particles in scalp
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to ask a doctor service.
I have viewed the image and gone through the query.
These dirty dots are supposed to be a normal finding in some prepubertal children and are most likely a result of inability of the scalp to repel particulate debris from exogenous environmental sources due to a relative decrease in the sebaceous gland activity in prepubertal children. These are uncommon in teens and adults due to the same reason because sebaceous glands become very active after puberty. I suggest you to use a mild shampoo for the child. Nothing else.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if you need any more assistance.
