I thought the question was pretty clear. I’m not sure what you would want me to specify. What is the typical prognosis for an elderly patient in this situation. With no blood flow from her arteries to the brain that sounds almost impossible.
Brief Answer:
About bilateral carotid stenosis:
Detailed Answer:
Hello again,
The prognosis is clear i think, i thought you would be interested in the treatment.
Critical bilateral stenosis of the carotid arteries (critical means over 80% stenosis), needs emergent treatment ( endartherectomy or angioplasthy with stents) to prevent a stroke event.
In critical bilateral stenosis the probability of stroke is extremely high.
I would suggest to see an angiologist as soon as possible.
Wish her good health.
Best wishes,
Dr.Mirjeta

She has seen a specialist but they have suggested that based on her advanced age (88) that neither endartherectomy nor angioplasthy would be appropriate.
While her health is good other than this, it sounds like the physicians are essentially determining that the surgery and recovery would not likely be successful nor improve quality of life.

Detailed Answer:
Hi again,
The aim is normally, a good quality of life and a long life. Where there is a possibility to improve both of them, the better it is.
Angioplasthy is less imvasive procedure but except of age there are many other factors to be taken into consoderation ( the extend of the stenosis, comorbidities, the actual cilinical status ect)
If they have decided none of the interventions would be benefical, than what is the life excpectancy in this case? Did they tall about it?

No, they didn't talk about it. So your comment that prognosis is clear actually isn't and that is what I'm asking.
