My Doctor Prescribes Me Ambien ( Zolpidem ) For Sleep.

Question: My Doctor prescribes me ambien (Zolpidem) for sleep. I also have liver issues that he needs to take into account. I have in the past (with same liver issues) been prescribed tramadol for pain. It works well and makes me sleepy at the end of the day where as the ambien only made me sleepy sometimes. Would there be a problem changing the drugs to see if they would better suit my needs?
Brief Answer:
Ambien is a hypnotic drug.
Detailed Answer:
Hello thanks for using ask a doctor service
Ambien is Zolpidem and is a hypnotic medicine. Tramadol is basically an opioid drug used for pain. The drug has high abuse potential compared to Ambien. So it is not a good idea to take Tramadol in place of Ambien.
If the drug is not resulting in sleep then you could ask your doctor to increase the dose and this will help in sleep.
Thanks
I hope this helps but if you have more doubts please ask again.

I see your concern, but aren't tramadol and ambien also used as antidepressants? If not these for depression/sleep deprivation, then could you recommend any others?
Brief Answer:
Ambien or Tramadol both are not antidepressants drugs.
Detailed Answer:
Hello again.
No both drugs are not antidepressants. In some cases of depression Ambien is used for sleep but Tramadol is not commonly used in depression patients.
Trazodone or Amitriptyline can be used for sleep too. Both are anti-depressant drugs too and can supplement the actions of Ambien. Both are safe to use if used with proper prescription. You can talk with your doctor for this.
Thanks
Still have more to ask please ask again.

Is there a recommended Vipps site where I can purchase tramadol without a prescription?

Do I need to log in again?
Brief Answer:
You should visit a doctor for this.
Detailed Answer:
Hello again
Tramadol is a controlled drug. You can’t get this drug or it’s precription online.
You have to visit a doctor in person for prescription.
thanks
