My Dr's Office Left A Message Stating My Potassium Is
Question: My Dr's office left a message stating my potassium is at a 2.8 and I need to go to the ER for an infusion. They are closed so I can not ask further questions. Do they usually admit you for that? Is 2.8 really low enough to warrant an ER visit?
Brief Answer:
This is not critical
Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome.
This is moderate decrease of potassium and still not critical. Less than 2.5 is considered critical. 2.8 requires iv supplements, but it may be present iny you for days or weeks so if you don't experience any symptoms, you can wait till morning to have infusion, and it would be good if you can take per oral potassium tablet till that. If you have symptoms, you should see ER immediately. Wish you good health.
