My HbA1c Reading Seem To Be Inaccurate. For Several Years
Question: My HbA1c reading seem to be inaccurate. For several years I have had poor blood sugar control (estimated using finger prick to be 8.0-9.0). Yet, my lab A1C's have ranged from 7.0-7.4. Could the inaccuracy of my be related to the fact that I take imbutrinib for leukemia?
Brief Answer:
Hba1c is likely to be affected
Detailed Answer:
dear sir, hba1c is average blood glucose of past 3 months and is derived from glycated hb . so any disease condition that affects lifespan of RBC is likely to alter hba1c.
so the drug may not directly interfere with the result but the disease condition ie leukemia may alter the results.
it is suggested to look for glycated albumin rather than glycated hemoglobin in such cases.
regards!
