Question: My adult son hit his eye on a chair while playing basketball. The eye is somewhat bloodshot, sore, he had double vision when it occurred an hour ago which is better although still somewhat blurry. He is applying ice to the area. Do you think he needs immediate attention? Suggestions? Thanks so much

Brief Answer:
Ophthalmologist visit suggested.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to Ask A Doctor services.
I have read your query and here is my advise.

* The presence of blurring in vision indicate internal edema or trauma
induced inflammation.

Though primary relief with ice application is best way to adopt, I would quote an evaluation with ophthalmologist to get vision and retina checked with prescription of necessary antibiotics, anti inflammatory medicines which will help to solve the issue much faster and avoid any unnecessary complications.

Wish him best recovery and health.
Regards.
