My Aunt Is 75 And A Month Ago She Was
Question: My aunt is 75 and a month ago she was fine. She has had kidney issues where she would have dialysis once or twice a week. She was in the hospital less than a month ago with confusion, and was seeing colors and not making sense. The doctors stated it was possibly from a change in her medicine. She is diabetic, but sugar levels have been stable. O2 sats are stable when awake. They were going to test her for sleep apnea, but have not done so, yet. Drs. say there were no signs of stroke or cardiac issues. The confusion and weakness still exists. And they are saying She will be needing long term care. How can this be when she was fine a month ago and has had no definitive diagnosis of anything. Do you have any ideas ?? Thank you.
Brief Answer:
Possible electrolytes imbalance.
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor service.
I read your query and here is my advice.
This sudden change on seeing colours may be related to new drugs she may be taking.
You can write to me the medications that she's is taking.
Taking count that she is suffering from kidney disease and she is on dialysis probably she has more elevated levels of that certain medications that may be using.
Also she may be having electrolytes imbalance since she has kidney disease and used dialysis.
Hope I have answered the question.
