My Best Friend Just Found Out She’s Got Two Large

Question: My best friend just found out she’s got two large aneurysms in the base of her brain. She’s been taken to a hospital in the city to see a specialist. I’m waiting for some kind of news. She has rheumatoid arthritis and suffered a heart attack about 15 years ago caused by a blood clot. Is there any treatment for an aneurysm besides surgery? How dangerous would surgery be for the aneurysms? What happens in this type of surgery? I’m very worried and have no idea if she’ll make it or not. Any information you could give me would be appreciated. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
untreated aneurysm and surgical intervention are both critical.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to Ask A Doctor services.
I have read your query and here is my advise.

* Aneurysm in the brain means weak area of the brain artery dilates and fills with blood
and can present with various symptoms according to the size and location or may even
asymptomatic in many cases.

* There are various factors which can predispose to the development of brain aneurysm
as long standing hypertension, hyper cholesterolemia and others.

* There are various modalities available for the management of Aneurysm depending on
location, type and other considerations from surgical point of view which may include
coiling through stereotactic surgery, open repair or else.

* Complications of the untreated Aneurysm include rupture, severe life threatening
hemorrhage in some cases ; as well as the intervention at times also lead to
hemorrhage, damage to areas of the brain and other sequences.

* Not necessarily mean that every surgery is problematic , there are ample number of
successfully treated cases world wide via best neuro surgeons.

I would like to assist further if you can provide me the details of her symptoms, past medical history, current medications and MRI report if available to proceed in best way.

Awaiting for your response.
Wish your friend best health.

Regards.
