Brief Answer:
Yes, it could be acute gastroenteritis.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for choosing 'Ask A Doctor' service for your query.
I've gone through your details and I appreciate your concerns.

Very likely it's due to infection. Infection causes inflammation in intestines. This inflammation causes secretion of large amount of mucous as a protective mechanism and on the other hand water from semiformed stools is not absorbed by inflammed intestine causing stools to be mucoid and watery.

In order to relieve yourself, you need to do the following:

*Take over the counter medicine Imodium 4mg thrice daily till mucoid and watery stools stop.
*Take a probiotic like VSL#3 twice daily for few days.
*Take lots of fluid and coconut water.

* Avoid spicy food. Take small but frequent meals. Avoid long gaps between meals.Take home cooked very soft meals like Banana,Apple sauce ,Rice etc.
* Avoid alcohol intake (if at all do).
* Take Omeprazole once daily before breakfast.
* Take plenty of green leafy vegetables as well as other sources of dietary fibers. Take fiber supplements like isabgol/psyllium husk or senna. I would insist you to increase your dietary fiber intake.

If not relieved in three days or pulse rate at any time increases more then 110-120/minute or blood pressure systolic(upper) falls below 90 mmHg contact nearest hospital. You can use an automatic machine to measure this at home.

Hope I was helpful.
