Brief Answer:
You are having leg cramps and proper treatment recommended.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to "Ask a Doctor" service,

I carefully read your query and understand your concern.

If your calves are tightening very likely you are having leg cramps. This is very common and there are a few things to help with it:
- you can take vitamin B complex supplements regularly, some patients notice improvement of leg cramps with it
- magnesium supplements can also be tried as magnesium affects the contraction of muscles
- be sure you take enough salt during the day and keep yourself well hydrated as well.

When you experience a cramp, you will need to relax, slowly stretch the leg and gently rub the area so the muscle relaxes. You may also apply a warm pack if it is available at the moment of the cramp.

If you have any swelling, redness or pain (not associated with tightening) that comes with walking or climbing stairs you will need to see your doctor.

I hope this answers your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care.

Kind regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General and Family Physician
