My Child Got Blood On Her Hand From An Adult
Question: My child got blood on her hand from an adult giving her physical therapy. Just a smear. It was washed off. We didn’t see any broken skin, but she does have hangnails.
Brief Answer:

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Hangnails can create cuts in the skin.
So, the possibility of the transmission is possible if the blood was in contact with the hangnails.
In this case I suggest to do the tests for possible infections such as HIV or hepatitis.
If the blood was not in contact with the hangnails there is nothing to be worried.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
