My Daughter (20 Months Old) Had A Low Grade Fever

default
Posted on Sun, 3 Jan 2021
Question: My daughter (20 months old) had a low grade fever and lack of appetite, took her to see a doctor and her covid 19 test came back negative. We were told that it's a virus probably and just monitor her. Her fever went away after 2 days but at night after getting a bath, she developed these small red dots all over her face and trunk. Took her to the doctor the next day and were told it's related to the virus and would go away, didn't know what virus when we asked. Ever since then, her voice is different and she seems to have a very deep voice. What could be the problem? what virus did she have? and are her voice and lungs affected? Could it be that her covid 19 test was a false negative. We have a high suspicion that she already had the virus earlier this year because the whole family got sick in March after coming into contact with a family member who lived in XXXXXXX (the first place covid 19 was detected). I tested positive for covid 19 antibodies and the test came back positive, never tested my daughter though.

Brief Answer:
Nothing to worry

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,
Welcome to Ask A Doctor service

I have gone through your query in details and understand your concerns.

But we need not worry here. Fever for two days followed by a rash is typically viral. There are many viruses that can have such presentation and viral panel testing is not indicated to identify the virus unless the disease is severe and progressive. Here, since she is getting back to normal, we need not worry. Anyhow, COVID is very unlikely here, as usually this will be associated with some respiratory complaints like cold/cough and such a rash is not common.

The change in voice is due to vocal cord inflammation/edema, and is common in viral illnesses. This will be back to normal in 7-10 days.

I hope this answer will help
