Question: My daughter Samadrita Mandal of age 6 year 6 mnths old has got urine infection with pus cells 20 and hs levofloxacin sensitive urine culture. Doctor has given levofloxacin syrup 125 mg/5ml in following dosage--- 4.5 ml twice for 5 days. Is the dose correct as genereally it is gven once a day

Dose of Livofloxacin is usually calculated on the basis of weight of a child .

Normally in UTI total dose of Lifofloxacin is 10-20 mg per kg of the body weight either as a single dose in 24 hours or in two equally divided doses if given every 12 hours. Dose and duration of treatment depends upon severity of infection .In severe UTI 20 mg per kg of the body weight is the recomonded dose and is to be given or 10 days In mild UTI 10 mg per kg body weight is adequate to control infection

Weigh your child ,calculate yourself the total dose she needs to be given and give her either as a single dose or in two equally divided doses every 12 hours for 10 days..
