Brief Answer:
No need to worry
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,
Thanks for the details given
After going through the entire history, this seems like an upper respiratory infection/flu only, and not pneumonia. It is quite common in this climate. It comes, clears in 3-5n days, only to recur after few days- weeks. This is acquired from adults/caregivers having a respiratory infection.
Most of these infections are viral, and need only symptomatic measures, as your doctor is rightly giving. Antibiotics/detailed evaluation is needed only in selected cases when the following features are present:
1. Fever not settling in 3-4 days
2. Thick yellowish nasal discharge
3. Wet cough beyond 5 days
4. weight loss or no weight gain over last 2-3 months
5. Paroxysmal cough- continuous bouts of cough coming all of a sudden, causing distress to child, with vomiting/breath holding after cough
If no such features, noting to worry. Even nebulisation is not routinely needed if there is no wheezing. If there is wheezing in chest on repeated episodes(the doctor can detect this), giving a course of inhaler(like Budecort MDI) for 3-6 months would be helpful. Your doctor can guide in this.
Anyhow, few things will help to reduce the cough:
1. Keep the child away from others with cold/cough
2. Reduce exposure to dust/smoke/cold
3. Reduce exposure to pets/woollen blankets
4. Avoid XXXXXXX bears/tolls with hight dust holding
5. Keep the room as dust free as possible- use wet mopping for cleaning.
I hope this answer will help
If you need further help, i will be happy to do
Thank you
