My Daughter Had Fever From The Past Two Days
Question: Hi..my daughter had fever from the past two days...not coming down with paracetamol...doctor suggested meftal p....after giving meftal her temperature has gone down but she has started vomiting...thrice already...why is this? Should I give her the second dose?

Hi ,
As the temperature has already came down, we need not repeat the dose now.
Vomiting is likely part of the illness rather than caused by the drug.
This can be a viral illness. If she is otherwise fine and taking feeds, we need not worry. Give her Paracetamol 3-4 times a day for next 48 hours. Give Meftal-P if fever is not coming down after 1 hour of Paracetamol(maximum 3 times daily). Antipyretics has to be given after giving some food/drinks, and not in empty stomach.
If vomiting continues, you can give her Ondansetron syrup(2mg/5ml) 2-3 times daily(5ml below 4 years and 10ml above 4 years). Give this 1 hour before food. Also, give feeds in small frequent amounts to reduce vomiting.
With these measures, she should be fine in 48-72 hours. If not, or if she develops additional symptoms like loose stools, kindly get back to me.
