My Daughter Has Got Some Skin Rashes Behind Her Ears

Question: My daughter has got some skin rashes behind her ears few days back and it is getting worst. Not sure if it is an allergic reaction or something else.
She also had Eczema kind of rashes few months back and paediatric dermatologist suggested to use Fucidin H cream. She also keeps getting small rashes and starts itching and it mostly goes by itself after sometime.
We, her parents also have Eczema problem and get itchy rashes.
Kindly refer the attached image and suggest on what can be done for this.

Brief Answer:
Eczema.

Thanks for using the Ask a Doctor service.
I have gone carefully through your query. I have checked the attached images. These are not due to allergy but due to eczema. You need to apply some moisturizer like aloe vera lotion topically and ensure that the affected areas remain hydrated at all times. Give her some antiallergic like Cetirizine Drops (or possibly better ones like Atarax (hydroxizine) which is a prescription medicine) since it is likely to be associated with itchiness. Do not apply Fucidin H. Its continuous application will only make matters worse.
Feel free to write back.

Thanks for the response.
1. Should we remove her ear rings? Can this be a cause for her condition?
2. I remember the earlier doctor who gave Fucidin H also mentioned it is a mild steroid. Should we not apply even then?
3. Any recommendation on the moisturiser to be used?
4. Kindly suggest the dose, duration and how many times a day we should give her Atarax ?

Detailed Answer:
1. It would be good to get the ear-rings removed.
2. The H of Fucidin-H stands for hydrocortisone which is a mild steroid. The problem is that continued use can increase the vulnerability. Hence asking to refrain.
3. Any brand of aloe vera lotion. Dermadew Aloe Cream can be used.
4. 1.5 ml thrice daily.
