                                            Question : My daughter is 14 years old and  was on cremaffin for two months as she had constipation problems.the  day we stop the dose as prescribed by doctors the next day she cannot have her bowel movement.now  after consulting another doctor she is taking laxopeg powder since Feb 5th..my worry is when can she be laxative free.two days back she had watery diarrhoea  several times so I didn't give her laxopeg.yesterday she had bowel movement so yesterday night  I gave her laxopeg..we are waiting for her bowel movement anxiously.her thyroid,blood sugar tests all are normal

For good bowel movements, the following are important -
1. Adequate fiber intake. To take lot of vegetables & fruits. Fiber supplements like Cremadiet Duo may be taken initially till she gets good bowel movements
2. Adequate fluids.
3. Adequate physical activity. At least 30 minutes of brisk walking or playing every day
She should not ignore the urge to defecate. Also she should fix a time for bowel movements so that the body gets tuned to it.
If in spite of all these, if she is still constipated, then she may need tests like digital rectal examination, colon transit study, anorectal manometry and defecography to find what type of constipation she has.
