Question: My daughter is 15 years old, in good health. Tuesday evening her stomach started to hurt. She went to bed and by 1 am , it was cramping so bad it woke her up. We had hr drink some water, put some eo's on her stomach and a heating pad. She was able to sleep somewhat the rest of the night. The next morning, she felt better and proceeded with her ay as normal, making sure to eat bland foods and stay hydrated. By the afternoon, she was throwing up and the stomach cramps reoccurred. Since Weds afternoon, this has been repeating.....she feels better, then it flares up again. She cannot eat any solids...she throws it up.....she has been drinking coconut water, popsicles and water and feels better for a couple of hours, then it flares up again. Right now she is having cramping and just threw up what little was in her system. She is not pregnant nor sexually active and she is not menstruating

Brief Answer:
It could be a stomach infection.

Detailed Answer:
Hi Jmaney001,

Does she have diarrhea? To me this sounds like gastroenteritis. It is important for her to stay hydrated. If it gets worse or she doesn't get better within the next few days you should see a doctor. Also see a doctor if she has a fever or blood in her stools.

Best wishes.

On Weds she had loose, but not watery stools three times throughout the day. Since then, she had not had any bowel movements, but she hasn't had anything to eat since Tuesday. We volunteered last Saturday for a flood clean-up....am wondering if she could have potentially picked something up there?

Brief Answer:
That is a possibility.

Detailed Answer:
Hi again,

It definitely sounds like gastroenteritis, especially if her stools have been watery and there is a potential exposure to gastroenteritis. It is generally harmless for young people, but keep an eye for deterioration in her health.

Best wishes.
