My Daughter Is 16 And Is In Agony With Period

Question: My daughter is 16 and is in agony with period pain. Her doctor recommended mefenamic acid tablets. She took two yesterday and then took a further 2 at 5am this morning. She is still in bad pain and has thrown up until she’s left with only bile. Should I try feminax uktra which contains naproxen? Is it ok to take two of these 6 hours after taking 2 mefenamic acid tablets?
Brief Answer:
Antacids will help
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I understand your concerns.
Following is my reply:
1) Pain will increase with mefenamic acid in some people due to gastritis.
2) Yes you can try the antacid tablet like omeprazole to reduce the gastritis that might have been caused by mefenamic acid
3) Dicyclomine or drotavarine instead of mefenamic acid would be a better option for pain during periods.
Let me know if you need any help.
Regards

ok, is it ok for her to take feminax with naproxen though now x 2 tablets? what can she take to stop the vomiting?
Brief Answer:
Feminax causes gastritis
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Vomiting is due to Feminax tablet. Dont give it now. It will increase gastritis.
You can give Ondansetron for vomiting, and give her an antacid.
Dicyclomin or drotavarine can be given even after giving Naproxen or mefenemic acid.
But please avoid naproxen and mefenemic acid.
