Question: My daughter is 7 and has reasonably abruptly began to demonstrate several tics. she has no other medical or behvioural problems. What is the likelihood that this will be a self limiting transient tic disorder as opposed to a chronic issue like tourettes syndrome?

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

I have noted the clinical details of your daughter. I would like to point out that in many children, tics stops within one year, and then, it is termed as provisional tic disorder. Only, if the tics persist beyond one year, it is called persistent tic disorder. Tourette syndrome is the most severe form, where both motor and vocal tics have been present for more than one year.

So, in summary, as of now, we can not classify her as a case of Tourette syndrome and there are high chances that these tics would be self-limiting.
