My Daughter Is In A Wheelchair And Bed 24 Hours
Question: My daughter is in a wheelchair and bed 24 hours a day -I notice small crack in the skin (about 1/3 inch) in length about midway between anus and top of buttocks. Was advised to use Butt Paste 2 days ago. I'm not sure thisis the right method to heal this area. What do you advise?

Very likely it can be anal fissure.
As patient is non ambulatory chances of it being a fissure are very high.An anal fissure is a tear in the lining of the lower rectum (anal canal).An anal fissure most often occurs when passing large or hard stools.Non ambulatory patients usually suffers from problems like constipation etc and hence are candidates for this problem.
However initially a Surgeon/MD should examine the child for fissure via proctoscopy (proctoscope is a hollow, tube-like speculum that is used for visual inspection of the rectum.)
So my initial suggestion is consult a MD/SURGEON and follow up after that.
Proctoscopic examination can be done by any Doctor.
So get it done ASAP.
Follow up after that,

She does suffer from constipation but the split is at least 1/2 - 2/3" in the skin above the anus. Would the treatment you describe be appropriate with the problem above tha anal opening?
