My Daughter Is Suffering From Loose Motion From Yesterday And
Question: My daughter is suffering from loose motion from yesterday and we are making sure that proper fluids are given to keep her hydrated. We had given her Zental 10ml a week back and not sure whether this is a side effect of that or because of food poisoning. Last time her paediatrician had suggested Econorm in case loose motion anytime but this is first time I bought that XXXXXXX She is otherwise normal.
1. Can we give Econorm to her and if yes what should be the dosage?
2. I have attached the XXXXXXX image for your reference and kindly advise if this is the same medicine which can be give to kids.

I can understand your concern.
I don't think that this loose motion is due to side effect of Albendazole (Zental).
Most common cause of loose motion in this age is some viral infection and Conservative treatment with fluids, probiotics and zinc helps in early recovery.
Econorm is a probiotic which contains saccharomyces boulardi for maintaining the healthy gut flora.
I have seen the image and this XXXXXXX of 250 mg can be safely used in children. The dose is twice a day for 5 days.
Actually this is not a medication but it helps in maintaining healthy gut flora for proper digestion and to inhibit the growth of other harmful organisms.
I would also suggest you to give zinc (zinc syrup) 20 mg per day for 14 days. This is also as such not a medicine but helps in strengthening the immunity and early recovery and is recommended in all case of loose motion.
Give plenty of fluids (ORS) and watch for danger signs like too frequent loose motion, decreased urinary frequency, shrunken eyes, dry skin, irritability, vomiting, blood in stool or poor oral intake and if you notice any please consult your pediatrician.
It may take 3-4 days for the stool pattern to get normal.

As suggested, I will start her with Econorm and Zinc Syrup. Can you please let me know how the quantity in ML(instead of mg) for Zinc Syrup for her age and weight?
Also, outside of her loose motion issue, I have a question on Vitamin D supplement. We had given her Vitamin supplements till she was 1 year old. Is it recommended to give Vitamin D supplement for her age group? If yes, what is the quantity? We are also moving to USA in next couple of months and can we continue taking it there as well if needed?

There are so many brands of zinc syrup and most of them contains 20 mg in each 5 ml. So 5 ml per day for 15 days is OK.
Vitamin D supplementation is needed till one year of age as per recommendation. So no need of vitamin D at this age.
